Bitter-Sweet

The sensation of bitter-sweet. You can have it bitter, or you can have it sweet. I enjoy a little taste of both worlds.

Coffee is a beverage that should be consciously drunk. Its superpower-like abilities from it are too unspoken of, and often neglected. But it isn’t just the caffeine aspect of it that should be more prevalent in conversations; it’s also the flavor.

Let’s say you’re having a pretty rough day. Maybe you get dumped, or you get laid off at your job. You’re going to be feeling pretty bitter after something like this happens. So what I like to do, to balance things out, is a nice sweet cup of coffee. I’ll add the cream and some kind of sweetener, and just enjoy the nice treat.

On the contrary, however, sometimes I’ll be having such an amazing day. If I got to talk to somebody that I truly loved, or if I pushed through all my tasks, it would be pretty hard to ruin the day for me. So you can say that afterward, I’ll be in a pretty sweet mood. If that’s the case, I love indulging in a black, unsweetened coffee. I enjoy it a lot more than a sweet coffee. The naked, bitter taste of pure, dark-roasted coffee beans balances my sweet demineur.

But, sometimes you just want both. Not overly sweet, and not overly bitter. The best of both worlds situation. You can add the desirable amount of sweetness and cream, while still having a prevalent coffee taste. It’s to the point where the color usually consists of the tint of a pair of mesmerizing, hazelnut eyes.

And it tastes just like most days; bitter-sweet. And that’s an amazing privilege to have. You shouldn’t expect every day to be really easy and sweet and for everything to go your way, or overly bitter and extraordinarily hard. I think that a balance of good, and bad is healthy. We need challenges and obstacles in our lives to grow and make progress in our characters.

However, the hidden secret to it all is just like coffee, you can make life however you want to. Whether it’s bitter or sweet, it’s all up to you. You can face your life with such a negative attitude towards it, always feeling bitter about your issues. You can also just fake a smile and say yes to everything, attempting to please most people.

Or you can do what I like to do, and take a deep breath, focus, and lock down on the challenges in front of you, whether they’re desirable or not, and feel so sweet after conquering every bitter thing and person in your way. It’s all a mind game, and it’s up to the ones with the strongest minds who are going to win it. And the only way to lose the game is to stop moving forward.
